HughesNet Factory Reset Process for HN Series Satellite Modems/Routers such as the HN7000s

If your DirecWay / HughesNet Ku Band Modems such as the DW6000, DW7000, HN7000, HN7000s or HN7700 modems are giving you a hard time during the installation / commissioning process, you may need to reset the modem to factory settings and try running the registration / commissioning process again!

First, you will need to have a Telnet application installed on your computer and be connected to the DirecWay / HughesNet modem.

Telnet can be installed under the Windows Control Panel under “Add/Remove Programs section under Windows Programs in Windows Me, Vista, and Windows 7.

Here’s a great article on how to do that: https://www.rootusers.com/how-to-enable-the-telnet-client-in-windows-10/

Here is a video on adding the Telnet Application as well:

Enable Telnet if it's not already Enabled on your PC

Once Telnet is Installed

Telnet can be installed under the Windows Control Panel under “Add/Remove Programs section under Windows Programs in Windows Me, Vista, and Windows 7.

Once you have telnet installed, here is the process for performing a factory-reset on your DirecWay or HughesNet Ku Band satellite Internet modem:

1. Open a Command or DOS prompt on your computer. The easiest way is to click on the Start button in Windows and enter “CMD” in the search box and hit “enter” to open a DOS window.

2. Then type “telnet 192.168.0.1 1953” and hit “ENTER.” then type “rf” (lower case) and hit “ENTER.” The modem should reset to factory settings.

3. Reboot the modem by unplugging it for 30 – 45 seconds and then plug it back in!

At this point, you should install the latest SBC (Satellite Based Commissioning File) into the modem so that it has the most recent parameters for connecting to the satellites.
