The ICE Zapper is a 110 volt peel-n-stick heating system that sticks to the back of any 18″ – 39″ metal dish to prevent snow and ice buildup. This model is an “always on” model that stays on as long as there is power supplied to it.
We also have one with a thermostat that turns on and off as needed, but unless you have an 18″ or smaller dish, we recommend getting this “always-on” model so it keeps up, and then you can just plug it in when you need to, or here in Montana, we just leave it on all winter so we always have a clear signal and dish.
This model is the recommended model for use with the larger satellite dishes such as the DISH 1000.2, Dish 1000.4, DirecTV Slimline, AT&T, HughesNet, and Wildblue, Exede or Viasat (metal dish) systems or in areas of rapid temperature changes where the “thermostatically controlled” model (also available) may not keep up with the temperature changes, heavy snow loads, etc.
An additional Ice Zapper can be used in severe climates or to ensure protection from snow and ice buildup, especially with the larger dishes… HughesNet, WildBlue, etc. Simply place one on each side of the back of the dish to ensure that snow and ice buildup will not occur… and, for ultimate protection, you can even place an Ice Zapper on the arm of your dish to prevent snow and ice buildup there as well if this is an issue with your mount and / or mounting location and / or your environment.
POWER: The Ice Zapper is a 110v heater that comes with a 5′ – 6′ long power cord. A medium grade “outdoor” extension cord is typically required to connect the Ice Zapper to an outlet unless you happen to have an outlet right beside your dish.
GET 2 or 3! Ice Zappers have a variety of uses… you can stick them on the oil pan of your vehicle or on the sides of your dogs water dish to keep it from freezing! We even use them on the bottom of our metal steps in the winter to save us some shoveling time. They will keep almost anything metal, warm enough so that snow and ice won’t stick to it!
